In a private meeting, facilitated by Minister Alan Kelly, Pat Ryan CEO and Elaine Ryan General Manager of Ryans Cleaning met with European Commissioner Karmenu Vella (Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries) to discuss with him the new recycling policies of Ryans Cleaning and how the company is implementing them.  Mr. Vella was very impressed with our initiatives and pledged to help us in any way possible to further them.

Ryans Cleaning is working hard to achieve “Zero waste to landfill” for our clients – an initiative which helped our colleagues in Croke Park to win the “Green Facilities Management Award” and to walk away with the overall award “Overall Excellence in Facilities Management Award 2015” at the recently held FM Awards ceremony in Dublin.   GREENER On and off the pitch” is Croke Park’s commitment to sustainability. Welcoming over 1.5 million visitors last year & generating over 700 tonnes of waste, the stadium’s facilities management team work to ensure the stadium achieved its ambitious green objective of 0% of its waste going to landfill in 2014.

This year Ryans Cleaning have invested heavily in recycling infrastructure in order to help clients achieve their ever increasing recycling targets and sustainability initiatives. The larger pieces of equipment were a mill sized baler that is to be transported to all major events to enable Ryans to gain best value for recycled cardboard, aluminium cans as well as steel. The Baler was a huge success on its first event (Download Festival) where 16 bales of cardboard were collected attracting a rebate for nearly 10 tonnes of cardboard that previously would have been sent to Landfill. A can separator has also been purchased to automatically sort the vast amount of drinks cans that are collected from festivals into aluminium and steel, again by doing this it increases the value of the commodity. The separator will be used in conjunction with the baler for the first time at Latitude Festival, from there it will go onto Wilderness, V Festival and Leeds.
